Hello! I'm Heather Kress, MS, CCC-SLP/L, owner and lead Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) at Laughter and Language. Welcome to our page!
I am so excited to announce that we have opened our very own speech therapy clinic in Harrison City, PA! If you are not familiar with Harrison City, we are located within the Penn-Trafford School District, not far from neighboring Franklin Regional (my alma mater), Jeannette, Norwin, Hempfield, and Greensburg Salem school districts.
I grew up in Delmont, PA, just minutes from where I now reside with my family in Harrison City. We love this community and the families that we have gotten to know here. My husband and I have 3 young kids that are in elementary school and preschool (when they were younger I called them our 3 tornados cause they kept us BUSY!) and our big lapdog, Moose, a sweet yellow lab that loves to steal the kid's toys and lives for a walk around the neighborhood.
Throughout my career, I've held many different, but similar roles as a Speech-Language Pathologist. The diversity of being able to work in multiple settings and with a variety of people is what drew me to the career when I was in college.
I always knew that I wanted to work with kids so naturally I started as an education major. I hadn't even heard the words Speech-Language Pathology until I was working in a daycare as I was taking classes and the teacher told me to look in to it. A few hours spent on Wikipedia and researching online (there were very few blogs at the time in 2007/2008...and certainly no instagram influencers or FB groups...) and I was in LOVE with the idea of helping people with such an important skill - communication.
There's so much that I want to share through this blog about my own experiences as an SLP, the behind the scenes of building a dream in to a business from the ground up (hint: lots of coffee and my supportive husband that keeps me organized and on track), lessons I've learned from the amazing families that I get to work with each day, and of course - the incredible kids that I get to help become confident and effective communicators. We have so much fun in therapy sessions... I hope I can capture some of that here.
All the best,
Heather
